Eastern Tour I

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Bogotá

Day 2: Today we shall head down the east slope of the Eastern Cordillera to the type locality of the rarely seen Cundinimarca Antpitta.

Day 3: At dawn we shall visit a local marsh in search of Apolinar’s Marsh-wren and Bogotá Rail before visiting a private reserve overlooking the city to look for Rufous-browed Conebill, Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Matorral Tapaculo and Silvery-throated Spinetail.

Day 4-6: We shall take an early morning flight to Bucaramanga before transfering to the ProAves Cerulean Warbler Reserve for a three night stay. Here we shall look for Black Inca, Turquoise Dacnis-tanager, White-mantled Barbet, Gorgeted Wood-quail, Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird, Recurve-billed Bushbird and Parkers' Antbird.

Day 7-9: After an final early morning at the Cerulena Warbler Reserve we shall drive up the Magdalena Valley to the ProAves reserve of El Paujil. Here we shall look for the very rare Blue-billed Currasow after which the reserve gets its name, Sooty Ant-tanager, Antioquia Bristle-tyrant, Saffron-headed Parrot, Beautiful Woodpecker, Citron-throated Toucan and Yellow-browed Shrike-vireo.

Day 10-11: Today we shall continue our journey up the Magdalena Valley to Ibague where we shall spend our time looking for mainly for Tolima Dove, Blossomcrown and Yellow-headed Brush-Finch.

Day 12: After a final morning birding around Ibague we shall take a flight to Bogota for international connections (or to Santa Marta for Extension).
